Thousand Guineas

thousand guineasThe 2018 Thousand Guineas is scheduled to run on Saturday 13th October 2018 at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria.

A $500,000 Group 1 race, the Thousand Guineas (1600m) is the Melbourne Racing Club’s premier three-year-old event for fillies. It takes place on the same day as the $2,000,000 Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) for colts & geldings.

The Thousand Guineas has proven to be a wonderful breeding ground for top class mares over the years with quality gallopers Atlantic Jewel, Miss Finland, Alinghi, Special Harmony, Shankhill Lass and Toy Show all winning this race.

Any three-year-olds contesting the Thousand Guineas or Caulfield Guineas may consider goping on to the $500,000 Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) the following week.

The step up in distance from 1600 to 2000 metres provides the ideal stepping stone for any three-year-olds on a spring staying path.

Thousand Guineas Day also features the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) on one of the biggest race days of the Melbourne spring.
