Caulfield GuineasThe 2017 Caulfield Guineas will take place on Saturday 14th October 2017 at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria.

First run in 1881, the $1,000,000 Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is a classic mile race for three-year-olds, where the winning galloper tends to continue on to become a genuine star of the turf.

Widely regarded as the race where stallions are made, the Caulfield Guineas honour roll includes horses of the ilk of All Too Hard, Starspangledbanner, Lonhro, Redoute’s Choice and Mahogany.

Back in the day, legends of the turf such as Tulloch & Ajax, also etched their names as Caulfield Guineas winners.

In 2014 the Melbourne Racing Club announced the running of the Caulfield Classic (formerly the Norman Robinson Stakes) on Caulfield Cup day on the final day of the three-day Caulfield spring racing carnival.

As an added incentive to win the Caulfield Guineas or Thousand Guineas, the MRC offered a $500,000 bonus for any three-year-old that could can win either the Caulfield Guineas or the Thousand Guineas and then take out the Caulfield Classic the following Saturday.

Caulfield Guineas day kicks off the three-day Caulfield Cup Carnival alight with an exciting day of thoroughbred racing action for punters. Feature Group 1 races, the Caulfield Stakes and Toorak Handicap ably support the two major three-year-old feature races on the day.

Caulfield Guineas day heralds the start of the three-day Caulfield spring racing carnival in early October, with Blue Sapphire day taking place the following Wednesday.

Three days later on Saturday, the Melbourne Racing Club’s premier event of the spring, the $3,000,000 Group 1 Caulfield Cup, highlights the final day of the Caulfield Cup carnival at Caulfield.

2016 Caulfield Guineas result

Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes trained three-year-old Divine Prophet won the 2016 Caulfield Guineas defeating Seaburge by 0.20 lengths, with Hey Doc a further 0.50 lengths away in third place.

Divine Prophet, a son of Choisir, was ridden by jockey Dwayne Dunn and he ran the trip in a time of 1:36.51. His starting price on the day was $7.00.
