Caulfield Cup

Caulfield cupThe 2017 Caulfield Cup will run on Saturday 21st October 2017 at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria.

The $3,000,000 Group 1 Caulfield Cup is run over a distance of 2400 metres under handicap conditions and is the richest turf race over that distance anywhere in the world.

One of the great races on the Australian horse racing calendar each year, the Caulfield Cup is second only to the ‘race that stops a nation’, the Melbourne Cup, in terms of prestige and popularity. It is the premier distance race of the Melbourne Racing Club’s three-day spring racing carnival in October.

The Caulfield Cup forms the first leg of the popular spring Cup’s Double, along with the Melbourne Cup. It heralds the onset of elite racing ahead for horse lovers with the WS Cox Plate one week later at Moonee Valley, followed by the Melbourne Cup Carnival the next weekend at Flemington.
