Caulfield Cup
The 2018 Caulfield Cup takes place on Saturday 20th October 2018 at Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria.
Offering $3,000,000 in prizemoney, the Group 1 Caulfield Cup is run over a distance of 2400 metres under handicap conditions and is the richest turf race in the world over that trip.
It’s one of the great handicap races on the Australian horse racing calendar each year, second only to the ‘race that stops a nation’, the Melbourne Cup (3200m), in terms of prestige and popularity. The Caulfield Cup It is the premier distance race of the Melbourne Racing Club’s three-day spring racing carnival in October.
During the spring, the Caulfield Cup forms the first leg of the popular Cup’s Double, along with the Melbourne Cup. It heralds the onset of elite racing ahead for horse lovers with the WS Cox Plate (2040m) one week later at Moonee Valley, followed by the Melbourne Cup Carnival the next weekend at Flemington.

A number of quality group races take place on Caulfield Cup Day including three more Group 1 events, the Caulfield Stakes (2000m), Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Toorak Handicap (1600m).
2018 Caulfield Cup Day
The Caulfield Cup is held on the final day of the Melbourne Racing Club’s three-day spring racing carnival on the same day as the club’s feature distance event for three-year-olds, the Caulfield Classic.

2017 Caulfield Cup result
Lindsay Park galloper Boom Time scored an upset victory in last year’s race when he flew home late to win by 1.25 lengths for trainers David amp; Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig. Corey Parish rode the son of Flying Spur to victory in a time of 2:27.66 for the 2400 metres distance.
Boom Time defeated Canberra galloper Single Gaze, from the Nick Olive yard, with the Aiden O’Brien trained Johannes Vermeer third.
